Descrizione del progetto
The modern job market demands for vital, innovative, active and creative young employees who can cooperate both in national and international environments. In addition to a professional´s deep understanding of their field young people need a wide range of competences to get employed or to start a successful business of their own. This is why the main objectives in our project “Find your way through art” are to increase the sense of initiative and entrepreneurship, broaden our students´ horizons regarding job opportunities and provide them with tools that they can use later in their working life, eg digital competences and language skills.
In the project a core group of 30 or so students in each school will plan and carry out five different events and performances in different countries in collaboration with their partners abroad during two years: a concert, an art exhibition, a fashion show, a theatre performance and a modern art installation. The students are responsible for carrying out the events while teachers help and instruct when needed using learner-centered methods.
Our project offers them real experiences in joint ventures. While trying their hand at different tasks, students will realize the importance of networking, determination, taking initiative and responsibility. Students will develop crucial skills in cooperative decision-making, leadership, effective communication, and complex problem solving while working with their peers online and face to face.
To carry out our project there will be real contacts to and help from external organizations such as museums, local companies, theaters and entrepreneurs in the form of guest lectures and study visits. They will give our students invaluable information regarding their fields, eg how to get started when organizing an event, what to take into account, where to find help. Furthermore, for instance entrepreneurs can provide students with a realistic idea of becoming self-employed. Our students will become aware of the current situation on the job market, and might benefit from these proper links in the future.
The need for the project arose in discussions in schools and among partners. The previous projects focused on more academic subjects and there appeared to be a genuine need for an art project firstly because two of the partner schools specialize in art and most of their students will find employment in the field of art. Secondly in all the partner schools art in its various forms plays a special role and it is included in the national curricula in the partner countries. The project concentrates on the more modern aspects of both visual and performing arts as they are closer to the students´ interests and the world we live in today. Furthermore, we found arts suitable for our project since it is a versatile subject, and in addition to art lessons, the arts are vehiculated through many subjects, eg history, literature, PE, religion and foreign languages. Art is a way for students to be creative, express their feelings and respond to important issues, and and it may help boost student´ self-esteem, prevent young people from becoming depressed and dropping out of the educational system altogether.
Another important aim is to integrate good practices and methods gained during the project into everyday school life. The partners can share their knowledge, learn from each other and develop more attractive curricula.
During our project, our students and teachers will be encouraged to improve their skills of communication in different languages and also of ICT. While working together, be it online or in the classroom, students will see how important it is to be able to speak a foreign language and thus their motivation to study will be enhanced.
Learning to use an e-platform is an asset for the students in further education and working life. Some of the objectives mentioned above are achieved with an effective use of modern means of communication, eg eTwinning or Skype. Working on the project this way will become a natural part of the lessons making it easier to develop ideas further, and deal with the various tasks efficiently, ensuring the continuous progress of the project. This forms a foundation for face-to-face cooperation during the project meetings as due to the nature of our joint ventures not everything can be done online. Moreover, project meetings and collaboration face-to-face are also important to complement our project because immersion into different cultures will reinforce the mutual understanding of each nation and diminish all kinds of prejudice.
We believe that our project will give our students an insight into working in a multi-cultural environment, motivate them to pursue their goals and encourage them to seek employment not only in their home countries but also in the whole European job market. Without restricting mental borders our students should recognize the fact that they can succeed as equal members in the EU.
Tampere meeting HANDS ON ART- CONCEPT FOR THE EXHIBITION
Name of the exhibition - SOFT AND SURREAL -Macchine, Motors, Engines, Stroj, Aparators, Koneet
The challenge is to make art related to the world of machines from soft recycled materials and eco-materials. Combining soft and hard, finding interesting forms such as cores, tubes, wheels, gears etc. There are a lot of textile materials and clothes which cannot be used or worn anymore because of their bad condition, for example. Furthermore, there are left-over materials which don´t find re-users, for instance, different threads, knitting wool, paper and so on. These can be used in making the work of art, for example.
The work of art can be a sculpture, like-painting, installation, happening…
The art works can be either site-based works (in Thiene, Johlava, Rottweil and Valladolid) that are documented for displaying in the exhibition, or the works can be transported and exhibited in Tampere. There are many contemporary art techniques and strategies that can be used.
The context of the exhibition is surreal; the art works have the qualities of surrealism and the bizarre, a surreal mix of fact and fantasy. Also abstract works of art are welcome.
